Recommendation from Coulson Body Repairs

June 2011

We would like to say how pleased we are with the Western Solar SV 90 Solar Powered Roof Ventilators we had installed into our Body Repair Workshop. The workers find that when the outside air is very hot & you come into the Workshop it is comfortable to work in given that the workshop is a big tin shed & not insulated from the convected heat.

Also we find that since having the Western Solar Roof ventilators installed, the Exhaust Gases from any running Motor is expelled maintaining a safe & pleasant work place for our Staff, along with maintaining a lower level of dust within the workshop and so helps to protect our Clients’ vehicles & the Health of our workers.

To think that we get all these advantages at NO ongoing running costs as the Power to run these Roof Ventilator Exhaust Fans come from the Sun and we would have no hesitation in recommending them to other panel Shops, or for that matter, to other industrial workshops or warehouses & factories in the Illawarra.

Dear Sir

In February this year we purchased a ventilator from you. We have been really thrilled with the difference it has made to our home. On a hot day our house is at least 10 degrees cooler than before having the ventilator installed. The cost being nothing to run and it shuts itself down in winter so we don’t lose the warm air in the cool weather.

We normally recommend the ventilator to everyone, no matter where they live in Australia, and will continue to do so to all our family and friends.

Yours sincerely

Dear Mr Powell

A year ago, roofing contractor Lindsay Fini recommended I install your solar powered exhaust fan. He was so impressed with the one he had installed in his own home. He saw it as the answer to my problem of an upstairs living area in my timber house overlooking the ocean in Fremantle that became unbearably hot when locked up on 35 – 40 degree summer days.

I have never written an endorsement letter, but I am very happy to write to you because the solar fan is an outstanding, practical development and I have experienced how it changed the climate in my house, cut power costs and eliminated air conditioning noise. (At substantial expense I had earlier installed a 5hp air conditioner upstairs which I have since had taken out.)

I will be installing more solar fans in our other properties.

Yours sincerely

Attention Mr Tom Powell

Western Solar – Solar Powered Roof Ventilation

As requested we have examined the construction of the Western Solar system for use on metal roof in cyclonic conditions of Australia and in particular for the most severe tropical cyclone areas along the North West of Australia for the wind loading calculated in according with AS 1170.2 for Region D. Terrain Category 2 for building heights not above 6 metres.

The roof ventilator consists of a 700mm diameter flat hood which incorporates a solar cell array and which is fixed to a 300mm diameter x 1.2mm thick sheet metal shaft section by 4 of 20mm x 2.0 mm straps. A 300mm exhaust fan is mounted in the shaft with 6mm bolt and ‘Nyloc’ nut fixings which also provide fixing for the hood brackets. The Shaft is secured to an apron by rivets and the whole assembly is then secured to the roof cladding and flashing ‘tek’ screws.

We confirm the construction of the roof ventilator will be adequate to resist the wind loading calculated in accordance with the above perimeters provided the ventilator is installed at least the heights of the building from the roof edge.

Yours faithfully

RE: Use of Western Solar Ventilation Systems

Over the past 9 years, I have witnessed the evolution of Tom Powell’s Western Solar products. With my interests in applied physics in building, I am very aware of the importance of reducing heat loads in roof spaces.

In the new building, an architect can minimize these loads through good thermal design and detailing. However, in existing buildings, we are often encumbered with adverse conditions with inappropriate materials, adverse affects from dark coloured roof materials and poor levels of installation.

Western Solar Ventilation Systems are excellent from my perspective, and I have had good feedback from my clients who have installed this system in their homes. There can be a dramatic reduction of roof space temperature (5 – 10 degrees). This is often enough to avoid the use of air conditioning on most hot days.

The product also has excellent application for abnormally hot houses with poorly insulated cathedral type ceilings. By venting at a high level, superheated air can be removed during the day. The open vent will also encumbrance night cooling of the dwelling, again reducing internal heat build-up the next day.

I have no hesitation in recommending the use of Western Solar’s Ventilation and can vouch for the excellent service offered by Tom and his team.

Yours Faithfully

Dear Tom

We have had a Western Solar SV 90 Industrial Ventilation System unit installed at our factory for 6 months.

Prior to the installation we had severe problems with heat and fumes in the laminating and mouldings sections of the factory. The SV 90 System and its ability to extract in excess of 120,000 cubic feet per hour have completely resolved this situation.

In very brief summary we and our staff are absolutely excited by the impact the SV36 have had at Shevron and enthusiastically recommend the SV 90 Industrial Exhaust System.

We are more than happy to receive queries on the SV 90 and the positive impact it has made at our factory.

Yours faithfully
